Das DOUK-DOUK ist ein legendäres Messer, dessen Geschichte Bücher füllt. Es ist ein sehr effizientes Messer von genial einfacher Konstruktion und besteht aus lediglich sechs Teilen: einer Klinge aus feinkörnigem Kohlenstoffstahl, einem Griff aus gefalztem Blech, dem Ressort (Rückenfeder), das die Aufgabe hat, die Klinge in geöffnetem oder geschlossenem Zustand zu arretieren, zwei Nieten und einem kleinen Bügel am Ende des Griffs, an dem man einen Fangriemen befestigen kann.
Die Idee zu diesem Messer kam Gaston Cognet im Jahr 1928. Danach sollte das DOUK-DOUK ein Messer werden, das so günstig ist, daß es jedermann erwerben konnte, gleichzeitig mußte es stabil und vielseitig sein und nützlich für alle täglichen Dinge, auch für die Arbeit auf dem Feld oder im Garten und wenn man es verlor, sollte sein Verlust leicht zu verschmerzen sein, denn für ein paar Francs konnte und sollte man ein neues Messer erwerben können ...
Dieser Gedanke, preiswerte, funktionale Messer zu erschaffen, muß seinerzeit in der Luft gelegen haben, denn in der Region Rhône-Alpes entwickelte Joseph OPINEL mit der selben Absicht zuvor sein berühmt gewordenes Messer aus dem dort in der Region verbreiteten ALPIN, einem Messer, das ihm und den alpinen Bauern in den Savoyen vertraut war. Trotzdem, Gaston Cognet hatte anfangs mit dem DOUK-DOUK in Frankreich nur geringen Erfolg. Aber dafür verkaufte es sich um so besser in den Kolonien und besonders in Mikronesien.
Neugierig geworden reiste er kurz entschlossen dort hin und auf einer der Inseln entdeckte er jene mythische Figur, eine rituelle Tanzmaske aus Gräsern und Federn mit Namen DOUK-DOUK, die ihn so sehr faszinierte, daß er sein Messer nach ihr benannte und sie fortan als Glücksbringer auf die Griffe seiner Messer prägte. Heute ist sie zum Markenzeichen echter DOUK-DOUKs geworden.
Wem ist es nun zu verdanken, der Maske oder dem Fleiß Gastons? Nach dem Erfolg in Mikronesien kam auch der Erfolg in den nordafrikanischen Kolonien und schließlich waren sie auch in seinem Heimatland Frankreich ein Erfolg und in allen Taschen zu Hause. Heute ist das DOUK-DOUK eine Ikone, ein Kultobjekt mit einer großen Fangemeinde. In vielen Museen der Welt ist es Teil der Sammlungen.
Gastons Enkel Pierre fertigt das Original DOUK-DOUK noch heute, in den gleichen Ateliers, in denen schon sein Großvater arbeitete und teilweise mit den gleichen Werkzeugen und (alten deutschen) Maschinen seiner Vorväter.

We ship parcels abroad with UPS. The complete price including shipping costs, customs duties and VAT will be displayed in the last step of the checkout before you complete your purchase. All costs are therefore already paid here in the store, nothing more is due on receipt (DDP - Delivered Duty Paid).
You can return most items within 14 days of delivery for a full refund. The condition is that the items are returned as new (i.e. unworn, unwashed, with all labels etc.). We will cover the return costs if the return is due to an error on our part (you have received an incorrect or defective item, etc.).
You can expect to receive your refund within one to two weeks of handing over the parcel to the post office / UPS, but in many cases it will be quicker. This time frame includes the time it takes us to receive your return from the carrier (1 to 3 business days), the time it takes us to process your return once we receive it (1 business day), and the time it takes your bank, credit card company, Postfinance, Twint, etc. to process our refund request (immediate to 10 business days).
If you wish to return an item, please note whether you would like a refund or an exchange.
All items that can be ordered are usually available from us and can be dispatched immediately. You will be informed immediately in the event of errors.
Most, but not all, of the items displayed in the webshop are also in stock in the store. Motorcycle clothing may be in stock in winter for space reasons, just as heavy knitwear, coats or fall/winter hats may be in stock in summer.
Individual items and items on sale are also often in stock.
Red Wing and other shoes are in the store all year round.

Most items are in stock and available for immediate delivery. For items that are not in stock, the delivery time is on average 4 weeks. You will be informed on the same or following working day if an item is not in stock. Please ask us about stock levels if the items are needed urgently.

All orders are binding. In case of delivery delays, you will be informed by email or telephone. You have the option to cancel the order if the delivery has not yet been shipped. Deliveries to the EU:
The shipping costs with UPS, fees for customs clearance and VAT are included in the total price (visible in the last step at checkout). There are no further costs upon receipt (DDP - Delivered Duty Paid).
Shipping costs Switzerland / Principality of Liechtenstein:
Orders with a purchase value of SFr. 100 or more will be shipped free of charge.
For orders with a purchase value less than SFr. 100, we charge SFr. 7 for Economy and SFr. 9 for Priority shipping.

Return policy:
If you return the purchased goods within 14 days in perfect condition and in the original packaging, we will refund the full purchase price. The costs for the return shipment are at your expense.
